'Dancing ForWards' -Hospitals Project

Our hospital programme boosts the physical, emotional and social well-being of patients and staff

Moving ForWards is a series of weekly dance interventions, conversations and playful encounters that take place on wards at York Hospital, Scarborough Hospital and Foss Park Mental Health Hospital, York.

In these participant-led sessions, patients and staff are invited to move, in whatever way and with whatever intention, they wish to move in that moment. The sessions are highly responsive, and are adapted for specific settings and sensitive environments. The focus is on playfulness, imagination and connection. For patients who are unable to attend small group dances, we provide dance by their bedside, adapting our practice and treating every dance, however small, as a valuable creative encounter.

We believe that dance has a powerful impact on health and well-being, and that this is further enhanced when participants have opportunities to enter into a collaborative, co-creative process.
