'Time to Dance' - Stroke rehabilitation
'Time to Dance' - is a pilot project with White Cross Court Rehabilitation Hospital, which explores how dance might support recovery from stroke
Time to Dance is a weekly programme at White Cross Court Rehabilitation Hospital in York, developed in partnership with clinical staff to support people recovering from stroke through creative movement.
Rooted in a growing body of research, dance can play a valuable role in stroke recovery—supporting balance, coordination, strength, and mobility, while also improving mood, confidence, and cognitive engagement. At the heart of Time to Dance is a belief that recovery is not only physical, but emotional and social too.
Sessions offer a gentle, supportive space to explore movement with curiosity and connection. Participants are encouraged to rediscover their bodies on their own terms, finding new ways to express themselves and rebuild a sense of identity following stroke.
The impact has been clear: both staff and participants describe the sessions as uplifting, motivating, and an important part of the recovery journey—supporting not just rehabilitation, but a renewed sense of possibility.
